How to eat fresh spirulina?

Fresh spirulina is super easy to eat! You can have it by itself or mix it into your daily meals, any meal you like. Its mild taste makes it a good ingredient – a great way to add extra nutrients to your food.

Eat it directly

To maximize nutrient absorption, consume spirulina on an empty stomach. Wait 15 minutes for better absorption, as solid food can slow it down.

Add it to your meal

Spirulina is versatile and can be added to a variety of dishes, but it’s best to avoid adding it to heated dishes, as heat can diminish its nutrient content.

Make it into Smoothie

Blend your favourite fruits like banana and strawberry with spirulina into smoothie for perfect breakfast or post-workout drinks.

Make it into Pesto Sauce

Complement your dinner with spirulina mixed into the pesto pasta sauce.

You can reference reputable sources like the National Institutes of Health (NIH) or the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) for general protein content information:

Antioxidant Power and Recovery:

The study mentioned earlier regarding spirulina and exercise-induced oxidative stress in athletes is:

Title: “Spirulina supplementation prevents exercise-induced lipid peroxidation, inflammation and skeletal muscle damage in elite rugby players”

Authors: C.C. Fernandes et al.

Journal: Nutrients (2021)

Important Note: This study suggests a potential benefit for recovery, but more research is needed to confirm a generalizable effect.
